Mini-Pajakis

I have liked pajakis for a long time. Since they are often quite complicated to make, I have come up with a mini version for this tutorial.

What you need:

12 Paper straws (I got mine from Søstrene Grene)

Wool

Parcel cord

Scissors & ruler

Pom Pom Maker (smallest size)

That’s how it’s done:

Step 1:

First cut the straws into two different lengths. For this pajaki I use 8 pieces 14 cm in length and 4 pcs 10 cm long. Then shorten the parcel cord to create 1 piece 60 cm long and 4 pieces 30 cm long.

Thread all 4 of the 10 cm straws on to the cord 60 cm long.

Step 2:

Then knot one of the 30 cm cords in front of the first stalk.

Now you thread a 14 cm stalk on both sides of this knot.

Repeat that...

… until all stalks are used up.

That's the way it should look now.

Step 3:

Now knot the ends of the stalks.

The pajaki has already taken shape.

Step 4:

Make 4 small pom-poms with the help of the Pom Pom Maker.

Tie them to every corner of the pajaki.

Step 5:

For the tassel, you wind some wool into a ring, thread a short piece of wool through it and knot it.

Tie another piece of wool around the upper third of the ring.

Then cut the ring at the bottom...

... and shorten the threads to the same length.

Tie the tassel to the bottom of the pajaki.

The thread for hanging it is attached to the top. Finished!

Of course you can vary colors and materials. Instead of wool you can use raffia or tissue paper. In addition, the shape of the pajaki can be changed by cutting the drinking straws to different lengths.
